It was sunny, but rather too windy, and I detected a pretty low variety, with not much activity of any sort much beyond the first 1/3 mile. There was one highlight: a flock of well over 100 Pine Siskins in the area near the far end of the sag ponds. (I saw about 80 at once, and was hearing quite a few more at the same time.) They seemed to be staying put, since they were still close by on my way out. Last winter Siskins were hard to come by in Santa Clara Co., as Bill has noted. In fact, the Palo Alto CBC had zero, for the first time in over 30 years. The high number for this CBC was 1058 back in 1987, and we haven't exceeded 100 since 1996.
