It had been drained and cleaned during the summer. There were some new visitors. On the small island was an adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON (Last week there were 2). In the pond with the resident Mallards and American Coots were a DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, 4 COMMON MERGANSERS (2 male, 2 female), 2 male BUFFLEHEAD and a PIED-BILLED GREBE. On the edge of the pond were 2 GREAT EGRETs. That's not too shabby for a small pond in an urban setting.
