Later, east of Felter Road (at a point where you can view Calaveras Reservoir) we had a perched light phase juvenile FERRUGINOUS HAWK. Then in the cattle pond located between Felter and Calaveras Rds, north of Marsh Rd., we had three HOODED MERGANSERS (two adult males) with the usual assortment of ducks. Two GOLDEN EAGLES were spotted in the same area, one with a white base of the tail but no white wing spots (2nd year bird?) flew off from the hillside leaving behind what appeared to be a dead Ground Squirrel? The first slag ponds west of the Coyote Creek Field Station entrance road had good quantities of our smaller Gulls (lots of MEW GULLS and one BONAPARTE'S GULL in a flock of RING-BILLED GULLS with couple CALIFORNIA, HERRING and at least one THAYER'S GULL included for size comparison). While at CCFS we noted that a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and a RED-TAILED HAWK amicably shared a tree while later alongside the Environmental Education Center entrance road a PEREGRINE FALCON and a RED-TAILED HAWK shared the same power tower.
