The bird was first heard drumming. a few minutes later the bird gave a nice variety of territorial calls (fairly short calls of varying tempo and tone but continuing for perhaps a minute in total). The PIWO flew eventually down, to the north and over a steep valley as a RED-TAILED HAWK flew low near it's perch. According to my maps this bird would be within in Palo Alto City limits and in Santa Clara County despite the fact that San Mateo County mileage markers are on the edge of the road.
