This amorning at 9am Jan Hintermeister, Karen Demello and I went to Lake Cunningham to monitor the herons nesting on the southern most island on the east side of the lake http://www.ci.san-jose.ca.us/prns/regionalparks/lcp/map.jpg We found 3 Great Egret nests with chicks in each nest, 1 Snowy Egret incubating and 13 Black-crowned Night Heron nesting sites. A total of 11 GREG chicks and 24 BCNH chicks. 1 BCNH adult was incubating. All these sites are easy to view from the paved walkway that surrounds the lake. Here is a map of the nest sites: http://home.netcom.com/~delphinus/id3.html Other birds seen nearby are Great-tailed Grackle, Green Heron, Great Blue Heron, Pied-billed Grebe, Mallards, Canadian Geese, Cliff Swallow, Double-crested Cormorant.
