Early in the day on Saturday, I hear a ruckus in one of the oaks, with a flock of very agitated Stellars jays squawking loudly. This went on for about a minute, and ended when a raven flew out of the oak with a jay chick in its bill. The raven made a bee-line towards Hidden Villa with its prey. I was surprised none of the jays chased it off. Could a raven preying on jays help reduce jay predation on smaller songbirds?
