Highlights included 3 singing YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS (one just north of the bridge and two up near the "hill" by the Gilroy sewer ponds, including one sitting out in the open easy to see), two pairs of courting BLUE-WINGED TEAL in the first pond, an AMERICAN BITTERN that flew from the second pond to the third, and 4 WILSON'S PHALAROPES in the last pond before the "hill" near the sewer ponds. Lots of BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, YELLOW WARBLERS, annd WILSON'S WARBLERS were singing along the creek, along with a single WESTERN TANAGER. Shorebirds and dabbling ducks were numerous and included 3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, a pair of GREEN-WINGED TEAL, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, and a WHIMBREL. At least 2 GREEN HERONS and a pair of COMMON MOORHEN were about as well. One BLACK-NECKED STILT appeared to be incubating on a nest, taking a brief break only to copulate with its mate. Two AMERICAN COOT nests were found as well. Mike Rogers _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
