The 24th annual Palo Alto Summer Bird Count is almost here. On June 5th teams will be scouring the hills and the bay edges in the same circle utilized by the Christmas count, but with much nicer weather. The 15-mile diameter circle is centered near Stanford, and extends into San Mateo county. If you have participated in this count before and are able to do so again, please contact your region coordinator from the list below. If you are new to the count, you may either contact someone on the list, if you see a particular area of interest, or contact me and I will find a spot for you. The region coordinators and their basic territories are: 1 = Al Eisner [[email protected]] North of Dumbarton Bridge, incl Bayfront Park 2 = Mike Rogers [[email protected]] South of Dumbarton Bridge, incl the Baylands 3 = Leda Beth Gray [[email protected]] Urban Menlo Park and Atherton 4 = Phyllis Browning [[email protected]] Urban Sunnyvale, Mt. View and Palo Alto 5 = Marcia Keimer [[email protected]] Woodside, Jasper Ridge 6 = Ruth Troetschler [[email protected]] Los Altos Hills, Foothill College 7 = Jack Cole [[email protected]] Skyline Ridge, La Honda 8 = Garth Harwood [[email protected]] Monte Bello OSP Bill Bousman will once again crunch the numbers, and Ruth and Gene Troetschler will host the countdown dinner in their usual gracious manner. Your region coordinators will have details and directions. Unlike the CBC's, there is no charge for this count, so sign up, have a good time, and know that you contributed to the local knowledge of our summer resident and breeding birds.
