I saw lots of ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS, but only 4 selasphorus hummingbirds, including 2 courting male ALLEN'S HUMMINGBIRDS, my first female SELASPHORUS HUMMINGBIRD of the year, and a male that may have been a Rufous Hummingbird. Unfortunately, many of the male Allen's Hummingbirds raise their orange rump feathers to the point where their green backs can be hard to see from below and this last bird didn't wait for me to get a better angle on him :(. There were plenty of RED-TAILED HAWKS and TURKEY VULTURES riding the thermals, but a single adult GOLDEN EAGLE and an immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK were the only other raptors about. The area near the green gate had a pair of WESTERN KINGBIRDS (which later flew to the adjacent golf course) and single SAVANNAH and LINCOLN'S SPARROWS. Lots of molting immature CROWNED SPARROWS were in the brush. Other birds of note included at least one singing male TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD, 2 LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES, 5 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES, all five expected SWALLOWS, and a worn SAY'S PHOEBE. A single CASPIAN TERN flew in to hunt over Sandy Wool Lake, the first in the county this year and Santa Clara County year bird #200 for me :).
