Four gulls that seem on inspection all to be first-winter Western x Glaucous-winged to me -- are any of them Herring Gulls? (or, anything else...?) http://www.geocities.com/tgrey41/Pages/GullQueryp.html 2. Is this California Gull first or second winter? I thought second because of the extensive white on the breast and throat, but then I realize wear can produce the same effect on a first winter bird by this time of year. Am I right that first winter CAGU can show that much gray feathering on the saddle? (This individual also seems to have a slightly funky bill, some kind of discoloration obscuring most of the black tip.) http://www.geocities.com/tgrey41/CaliforniaGull12.jpg Tom Grey http://www.geocities.com/tgrey41 _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
