In San Benito, I missed the Sandhill Crane that's been seen at San Felipe Lake, but I did see Steve Rovell's BURROWING OWL on Lake Road, plus a second individual. At San Felipe Lake were several dozen American White Pelicans, dozens of Dowitchers, and a few distant Greater White-fronted Geese. I couldn't get an exact count, but I'd estimate that I saw a half dozen or so. At Paicines Reservoir was a single BALD EAGLE. Along Panoche Road was a Phainopepla, a single Rufous-crowned Saprrows and a Golden Eagle. In Panoche Valley were a few Vesper Saprrows amongst the numbers of Savannahs. Along Little Panoche Road were a couple of Sage Sparrows and more Vesper Sparrows. In Fresno County I found a single male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE singing from a scrubby Cottonwood tree. Back in Panoche, just to the north of the Inn, I had at least one Cassin's Kingbird. Another Cassin's Kingbird was along Santa Anna Valley Road a mile or so before Fairview Road. I had a question, which perhaps some of you could answer. At the corner of Little Panoche Road and Panoche Valley Road was a big sign claiming the Fresno-San Benito County line was about 20 yards east of the intersection. My map claimed that the county line was about 6 miles east of here. Which is correct? Did the county line change recently?
