Some of the more interesting birds there were a pair of drake Bufflehead, a Loggerhead Shrike, a Fox Sparrow, a male Rufous Hummingbird? (entirely orange back)and a two female Wild Turkey. A question to the group. This afternoon, for approximately 15 minutes, I watched a Mourning Dove "lounging" in one of our bird baths. I say lounging because it didn't perform the typical dipping, feather ruffling and splashing that bird do when they bathe. It lowered it's breast and belly in the shallow water and was letting the dripper drop water on it's back. I was wondering if it might be ill, but it eventually flew away. Has anyone ever observed this type of behavior in Mourning Dove or other species, for this long of time? Just curious. (Maybe it just liked long "showers"!) -- Randy Little, Milpitas, CA [[email protected]] "I bird because the voices in my head tell me to."
