This morning I went over to bird and parked in the first parking lot as you enter Vasona.... The Oak Trees there are usually good for all kinds of birds. Acorn Woodpeckers were busy flying in and out of the holes in the trees. Then I heard an Oriole call....Yep, I found the most gorgeous male Bullock's Oriole. He was florescent Orange on the breast with a beautiful sunshine yellow on belly...nice black eye strip, black throat patch and the top of his head was crisp black....What a beautiful bird. This is the area in which they have nested for the past five springs.... At the park today were the following: Red-shouldered Hawk Pair Spotted Sandpiper Pair Killdeer Pair Canada Geese, 3 Minma Race Coots Pied-billed Grebes Mallards Snowy Egret Black-crowned Night Herons in Rookery 11 Counted Great Blue Herons 8 Counted Western Bluebird Cliff Swallows Tree Swallows (Nesting) Anna's Hummingbirds (2 nests) Spotted Towhee California Towhee Robin Juncos House Finch Crows Oak Titmice Chestnut-backed Chickadees Song Sparrow Bewick's Wren Bushtits Nuttall's Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Starlings Belted Kingfishers (3) Wishing you all good birding and Happy St. Patrick's Day....
