A new yard bird for me. Saturday morning, 6 Mar 04, I confirmed a pair of COOPER'S HAWKS building a nest along an urban residential street in Willow Glen. Thanks to my friend Kris for alerting me to them. Sunday, 7 Mar 04, after leaving Mike Rogers in Alviso I noticed a BARN SWALLOW perched near State and Spreckles, although I found none at the EEC, where they breed on the building eaves. Heading back to south San Jose, I stopped at the Silicon Valley Blvd bridge crossing of Coyote Creek, where 4 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS were cavorting. Over at Calero Reservoir, where the water level is quite high right now, an adult GOLDEN EAGLE was sitting on the power tower nest to the north. At the stable area a couple TREE SWALLOWS were flying over the entrance road. A flock of 28 COMMON MERGANSERS on the water included only 1 male. While I was there, a female OSPREY was hunting over an arm of the reservoir at the southeast corner and then moved to the feeder creek. At the Coyote Creek Golf Club I found 3 female GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES. Mike Mammoser _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
