The female seemed to be incubating and the male mate-guarding. In the afternoon, on my return, the Forster's Terns, Black Skimmers and Am. Avocets left the island 3 or 4 times (I couldn't figure the source of disturbance) and I looked at the nest scrape, and with binoculars, the best I could conclude was that there were 1 or 2 tan lumps in the nest scrape. I need a scope to see if there are young, but considering I saw apparent incubation on 6/5/2004, there may well be hatched birds present. The Pied-billed Grebes are still at their nest on Adobe Creek, perhaps brooding the precocial young that Sidd saw. Twenty to thirty dowitcher and a Whimbrel are present in Charleston Slough. Those I could see well, a couple, were Short-billed. The shorebirds return. Bill _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
