Best birds were a couple low and slow flying WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS (good looks as they worked over the hill) and seventeen GREATER YELLOWLEGS in a canal just north of the Lockheed-Martin Ponds. The north (pond) side of the hill is a good place to see juvenile CLIFF and BARN SWALLOWS up close and from above. We then walked the overgrown Coyote Creek trail downstream from Montague Expwy to a couple hundred yards past where the creek makes a hard (90 degree) turn to the west. It was really slow going; best birds were a fairly dull male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD, a couple unseen but singing PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, a singing first year male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and a juvenile LINCOLN'S SPARROW. Lots of construction work going on where Guadalupe Creek crosses under Montague Expwy. so we passed on birding there.
