Joan Brauch and I birded on Bertram Road this morning. Some of our best 
birds included three Wood Ducks and Belted Kingfisher on the creek. Am 
Kestrel, Red tailed Hawk, Red shouldered Hawks, Ash throated Flycatcher, 
and Bullocks Oriole across Almaden Road near Hacienda entrance to 
Quicksilver. Western Wood PeWee, Warbling Vireos, Black headed Grosbeaks, 
House Wren family, Yellow Warbler, and a pair of Pacific slope Flycatchers 
near La Foret and the New Almaden Community Center. We found a W. Screech 
owl in a large Sycamore tree cavity. When I tried to take a picture I 
discovered my camera batteries were dead. The adult owl could barely keep 
his eyes open as we watched him for some time.
