This bird sang for a minute from the top of a sycamore above the trail before flying down into the grass, apparently to feed. It then moved to a stand of mustard below the trail, where it sang again from out of sight. After it stopped singing here, I never refound it. I saw 1 GRASSHOPPER SPARROW sitting up briefly on the hillside above the trail and had some numbers of RUFOUS-CROWNED SPARROWS singing and perching. Numbers of BULLOCK'S ORIOLES were seen, with 4-6 being present here. Also, a SONG SPARROW was carrying food in this area. I then went to the Spring Valley Pond on the other side of Calaveras Road, where PIED-BILLED GREBES had a family of youngsters on the water. WILD TURKEYS up in the oaks had precocial young. I drove up to the Sierra Road summit, where it was generally quiet. Only some singing WESTERN MEADOWLARKS and a single HORNED LARK. There was a pair of LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH at a private residence on Sierra Road below the summit. Mike Mammoser _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
