This evening he or she flew north from Long Ridge and landed in a tall Douglas fir (the same one in which we occasionally see a Pileated Woodpecker) about a mile south of Horseshoe Lake (Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve). S/he landed about 8:30pm and is still there at 9:00pm. It's late twilight - is it likely that this bird will stay perched all night? I'm reminded of a previous time when an Osprey landed in that same tree just about sunset and was still there until just pre-dawn the next morning. Also today, at 10:00am, we watched an adult Golden Eagle flying above Devil's Canyon. This bird perched in the tall Douglas fir just north of the one the Peregrine is now perched in. The GOEA was in the tree for about 20 minutes and then flew down into the canyon above Lambert Creek (which flows from Horseshoe Lake.
