Cal. Thrasher scratching in the brush at the start of Mine Hill Trail. A good look at a family of Blue Gray Gnatcatchers, with juveniles begging for food near the start of the trail. A single juvenile Huttons Vireo was in the same tree. Not much seen walking up the hill except Wrentits, Spotted Towhees and Bewicks Wrens. Two Western Bluebird juveniles and a adult male seen in the big oak tree at the top of the hill near the bench. A single Warbling Vireo, which appeared to be a juvenile, was found near junction of Mine Hill and Senador trail. As I walked south on the Senador trail, a screeching juvenile White trailed Kite with buffy breast markings flew to a tree top. Further out I could see a kiting adult White tailed Kite. A N. Flicker was also heard here. Walking down the Senador trail I heard a N. Pygmy Owl where the wires cross the trail. I've heard it at this location many time before, but never found it in this wooded area. Before I got to the bottom of the hill I heard a Coopers Hawk calling from the trees where they nested. Three foraging male Wild Turkeys and three Cottontail Rabbits were near the horse trough and picnic area. As I neared my parked car, a Peregrine Falcon flew over. It was dusk but its size and powerful wing beats indicated a falcon. I saw the facial markings when it turned its head. It flew over me then turned back into the park further north. This is the first Peregrine I've seen in the area all summer. Janna Pauser Almaden Valley _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
