It had no adult in sight. It had full flight feathers, I think, so it may have flown from the Alviso EEC island where the adults seem to be. The huge bill was unmistakable, and the outstretched wings were clearly those of a skimmer. It was light brown on top and white below, with black legs. The Black-Bellied Plover I saw was in the most complete breeding plumage I have ever seen. Adobe creek was high, but the slough was a mud flat, hence the shorebirds. Lots of Semipalmated Plovers.
