Sorry for the crossposting. Yesterday, 7/20/04, on a late afternoon walk at Jasper Ridge, three LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES were seen at the dam at Searsville Lake. They appeared to be a male, a female, and a fledgling. BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER families were abundant on the south side of the lake. This area is inside San Mateo County. This morning, a PILEATED WOODPECKER did its loud "kik-kik-kik" call and a softer "wek-wek-wek" call in our backyard forest on the north (Stevens Creek Canyon) side of Skyline Blvd. I didn't hear any drumming nor was I able to see the bird. I've had a few infrequent hearings of this species in this area this summer. This location is just inside Santa Clara County. A few weeks ago, my wife found an apparently car-struck, live COMMON POORWILL on Skyline Blvd. in the general area of Langley Hill Rd. (near Thomas Fogarty Winery). It appeared to be an immature bird. It did not survive. This location is in San Mateo County. Les Chibana _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
