Perhaps he saw the Ruff. The adult male RUFF was in New Chicago Marsh this afternoon, about 250 yards up the tracks from the EEC entrance gate, on the east side of the tracks. It basically fits the descriptions previously provided. I have no problem calling the shoulder patches "chestnut" on this bird. They seemed less orange to me than the term rufous connotes (such as in Rufous Hummingbird). Also, in today's light the pale base of the bill looked pinkish to me, and the legs grayish-pink; for what it's worth.
