Is anyone seriously looking at 50 years? A short 50 years ago people thought it was a good idea to drain the swamps in Florida, built cities on the reclaimed land in the bay and pump that unused water down south. Hopefully the salt marsh ponds won't become overgrown with reeds (a big problem) and become useless to shorebirds as well as birders (as is currently becoming the case with the Stevens Creek Mitigation Pond). I'm also concerned that one of the first things that these well-meaning organizations do is post "No Trespassing" signs. I suspect that nobody is seriously considering allowing public access to these areas let alone providing improved public viewing of the birds (elevated blinds, etc.). I certainly hope that ten years from now we don't look back on this time as the "good old days" of bird watching in the bay.
