Along the Grizzly Flat trails I heard 1-2 PILEATED WOODPECKERS calling and 2+ PYGMY NUTHATCHES. Bird song appears to have dropped considerably, although the Warbling Vireos were still going at it. I then dropped down to the Bay and made a CW cycling tour of Salt Pond A4 about noon. I never saw the Little Blue, just three other birders. I hope they had better luck. I stopped at the pond in the SE corner of Salt Pond A1 and found the BLACK SKIMMERS have left their scrape and the male was brooding a single chick away from the original scrape. Some of the time the chick spent wandering around checking out the island. The ckick was covered with tan down and its bill seemed quite large for anything but a skimmer.
