As it worked its way past some dowitchers, I could see that it was significantly taller than they were. (The bird's size listed in books includes the bill length, so a male Ruff's head should stand up higher.) A few minutes later I spotted both Ruffs, feeding together in the Pickle Weed 50 feet, or so, east of where the first had been. Heading out the railroad tracks to the main line, I found a large number of Sanderlings spread throughout the impoundment area west of the railroad tracks; they were mixed in with many shorebirds, wading birds, and gulls.
