Today I went out to Calero in search of the Bald Eagle...but it was not to be.... But, I did get a wonderful Spotted Sandpiper. Three species of Grebe; Eared, Horned and Pied-billed. Common Goldeneye are still there.... two white Pelicans and two White-tailed Kites were also seen. >From Calero I went down to take some picture of the Ferruginous Hawk (which I did) and found a female Grackle in the golf range parking lot. Lots of House Finch, with one Purple Finch mixed in and a Savannah Sparrow. Also, one Sparrow I just couldn't get an ID on. Lots of Western Meadow Larks in the field and Kestrel on the wire. >From Calero onto Ojier Ponds in search of the Bittern...I was thrilled to find it in the last pond in the reeds...along with four Common Moorhens. Also a Common Merganser sleeping.... On the way out I took awesome pictures of the Osprey in a tree with a fish in its talons. >From Ojier Ponds it was back to Calero for a quick check...Tricolored Blackbirds was the only new bird... Then it was over to Vasona to check on the Great Blue Herons... There are four nests occupied, but I don't know if Nest 6 has found a mate yet! While there checking the lake (the water levels are extremely low) I got California, Ring-billed and two Mew Gulls. In the parking lot I had great looks at a Red-breasted Sapsucker and Nuttall's in the same tree! Lots of Robins and Junco's. Wishing you all good birding and my best regards, Linda Sullivan _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
