About ten feet offshore from the trail dike inside the basin, both a male and female HOODED MERGANSER were diving. This was where the open bay is to the east, south of Hook's Island. Trying to be clever, I attempted to get closer for better pictures of the birds by moving down from the trail while both birds were underwater. This scheme worked twice, but the third time the female caught me erect and they quickly paddled away from me. _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
