Another birder had arrived at 7am. There were tons of ducks on Shoreline Lake, however, many more than when I left Saturday night at 5:20pm in dim light. The ducks all seemed to come into the lake at 5pm and had stopped well before 5:20pm. So somehow they flew into the lake in the dark, I presume. Also, yesterday, the Goldeneyes were doing continual mating displays, and tonight I saw none. Tonight I tried again 4:30-5:30pm. There were almost no ducks on the lake when I arrived (preceded by Al Eisner and Rosemary Lefkowitz (sp) )-- apparently due to Sunday boaters. Goldeneyes began flying in from the golf course pond. No Scaup flew in. When we all left (Dean Manley and other birders had arrived), the lake was quite empty of ducks. Devoid of ducks? A MERLIN kept us all entertained. Al Eisner, by the way, did get a decent look at the Tufted Duck last night, but in poor light. Good luck!
