I saw the Peregrine, Osprey and Belted Kingfisher but missed out on the Merlin. The Peregrine had just caught a small songbird when I saw it and proceeded to eat it sitting at the top of a Sycamore tree. The Belted Kingfisher was on the Guadalupe River to the south of the pond along with a male Common Mergansers with two females. A second male appeared but was driven off by the first. I posted some pictures here. Mostly they are against the sky so not great quality: http://www.pbase.com/robpavey/trip_csantaclarawdp__17_jan_04 The Peregrine looks closest to the Juvenile picture in Sibley but it does not have a pale crown. Does this mean that it is in the process of moulting into adult plumage? Rob _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
