A Merlin was still in a Sycamore tree facing Almaden Ex., exactly where I saw him yesterday. His constant grooming didn't improve his scruffy appearance. I observed the courting ritual of two pair of Common Goldeneye's on the main pond. It was every bit as entertaining as the Hooded Merganser's courtship behavior. A very joyful Osprey flew to his perch on top of a Sycamore tree over the pond with a large trout, chirping loud whistle like calls. The Peregrine Falcon was working on a freshly caught bird in his Sycamore tree in the north east corner of the pond. The young male Belted Kingfisher is still alive despite frequent attacks from the Peregrine. Ducks on the pond included Rudy, Mallards, Pied billed Grebe, Canada Geese and many Lesser Scaup with one pair of No. Shovelers and one male Bufflehead. Many egrets and herons all around the property. Lots of Song Sparrows seen and heard. The Pepper trees were full of Robins feasting on pepper berries. The only downer was not finding the Am. Bittern that I was lucky enough to find again two days ago. Janna Pauser Almaden Valley _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
