I started at the Sunnyvale WPCP oxidation ponds, then walked north of the Alviso Marina, and finally checked Salt Pond A16 at the Alviso EEC. At Sunnyvale, Roland Kenner, Pat Kenny, and Mike Rogers joined the search and were kind enough to point out a male EURASIAN WIGEON in the west pond. An antic imm. PEREGRINE FALCON was harrassing just about everything that moved, which was fun to watch. A female/imm MERLIN came by which was also great. North of the Alviso Marina, I found five SANDERLING at the north end of the impoundment there. I estimated >1100 gulls on the A12/A13 dike, almost all Herring Gulls. I missed all of Dave Weber's good shorebirds at New Chicago Marsh and found nothing notable in the gull flocks on A16.
