Driving by Santa Teresa and Richmond, I saw both FERRUGINOUS HAWKS in the field across from the golf center, getting excellent views of one, while the other was ground-perching all the way across the field. I then stopped at Ogier Ponds, where I had some continuing raptor activity. An OSPREY was hunting over the pond south of the entrance road and was later seen sitting in the top of a sycamore with a rather large fish. Later, a second OSPREY was at Parkway Lakes. A GOLDEN EAGLE was soaring over the hills east of hwy 101, and a MERLIN was perched on one of the power towers, while a COOPER'S HAWK was being stealthy in the low vegetation around the ponds. Other raptors included WHITE-TAILED KITES, RED-TAILED HAWKS, AMERICAN KESTRELS, and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. On the way out I refound the wintering YELLOW WARBLER along the creek channel that feeds the pond south of the entrance road. I also flushed a female WOOD DUCK here. Late in the day I was along the bike path near Coyote Ranch and watched as approximately 2000 CALIFORNIA GULLS streamed by overhead, heading towards the north to, apparently, night roosts. On Sunday, 11 Jan 04, I stopped at Edenvale Garden Park, where I immediately found the female WESTERN TANAGER at the northwest corner entrance gate.
