The Eagle stayed in the tree during the hour we walked in the park, but when we returned to the car, the Eagle flew from the tree into the park and circled over the corner of the field and above the southeast corner of the parking lot. The bird continued to circle, gaining altitude as he did. I could see the golden nape feathers as he flew. I also noticed that the leading edge of the wings appeared gold, too. This was at least a second year bird without the white areas shown in Sibley. When we drove away the Eagle had gained considerable altitude and continued circling. The MERLIN was atop a tall pole in the climbing area behind the amphitheater area at the northwest end of the park. This is only the second time I've seen this bird here since the San Jose Christmas Bird Count, though before that, I had seen him here most days for a week or two.
