Hello All,

Caralisa Hughes and I visited the Baylands today (Jan 3) to pick up some of 
the more regular baylands birds for our year lists, but we saw a few worth 
mentioning.

At Charleston Slough we found a female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER which later 
flew over to Salt Pond A1 where Kathy Parker also saw the bird.

A pair of HOODED MERGANSERS was in the Palo Alto Flood Control Basin.

And finally, a BARN OWL was seen in the Barn Owl nest box at the Alviso EEC.

Other birds, such as the Black Skimmers, have already been mentioned by 
others.
