Hi,

Because of the rain I did my traditional New Year's day birding close to
home this year. At Almaden Lake I saw 13 Common Mergansers and 5 Hooded
Mergansers on different parts of the lake. A Ruby-crowned Kinglet foraging
at the edge of the lake let me see it's crown.

At the Santa Clara Valley Water District ponds, I missed the Osprey but did
see the Peregrine Falcon in a dead tree near the Southwest corner of the
big pond.
