On Saturday, 21 Feb 04, I stopped at Vasona Lake County Park and counted 45 MEW GULLS at the boat launch, far outnumbering the other species present, which included some RING-BILLED, CALIFORNIA, and a single GLAUCOUS-WINGED. A SPOTTED SANDPIPER was working the shoreline nearby, while a BELTED KINGFISHER was diving for breakfast in the creek. Later that day I visited the Campbell perc ponds, finding an OSPREY perched atop a bare tree on the smaller island of the north pond. The first small pond next to the freeway, in from Oka Road, had a pair of HOODED MERGANSERS and a SPOTTED SANDPIPER.
