It put on quite a show for us, finally getting a meal that it devoured on the ground. There was a flurry of activity at one point when a Great Egret, Ring necked Pheasant, White tailed Kite and the Ferruginous Hawk were all within a few feet of each other at one time. Jana Kattenhorn spotted 8 Tule Elk on a hillside across the freeway. This was east of Hwy 101 between Metcalf Rd. and Golf Creek Rd. exits. I stopped at Stile Ranch trail on the way home and found a Say's Phoebe, Yellow billed Magpies, Am.Kestrels, Cal. Thrasher, Savannah Sparrow, Rufous crowned Sparrows and Meadowlarks all near the parking area. At the Alamitos Creek trail this afternoon I saw both pair of Wood Ducks, a pair of Am. Kestrels courting, a Red breasted Sapsucker, Hermit Thrush, and a large Bobcat walking up the hill on the east side of the trail.
