Per Bill Bousman's suggestion that I go to a pet store that handles birds I went to Dolphin Pet Village in Campbell. After some discussion I was told the bird was a Red Face Crimson Wing. The species is native to Africa and is widely bred and is popular in private aviaries. You can buy a pair for a mere $299.99.
