A pair of WHITE-TAILED KITES were acting "chummy" in the area. I heard, but couldn't see, WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS overhead. Back in the south, I checked Almaden Lake Park, but was unable to find the Glaucous Gull reported from there. There were quite a few CALIFORNIA GULLS on the water, with a sprinkling of HERRING GULLS mixed in and 1 each of MEW and GLAUCOUS-WINGED. At Santa Teresa and Richmond in the north end of Coyote Valley I refound 1 of the adult FERRUGINOUS HAWKS that have been reported there. On nearby Tulare Hill I had a ROCK WREN singing and a SAY'S PHOEBE foraging. A pair of COMMON RAVENS was pestering an immature RED-TAILED HAWK that was soaring overhead, and which even had the temerity to pester back a little. However, when an adult Red-tailed showed up, the ravens decided that they didn't like the odds anymore and left. On Sunday, 8 Feb 04, I stopped at Edenvale Garden Park, where I immediately had the wintering female WESTERN TANAGER at the northwest gate. A walk through the park produced a male intergrade NORTHERN FLICKER and a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, both foraging on the ground right next to each other. A large number of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and a handful of TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS were foraging the eucs and oaks. At Ogier Ponds I had 4 TREE SWALLOWS flying about, which may have been incoming migrants prospecting for sites. A single female GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE was at the Coyote Creek Golf Club.
