Many GREAT and SNOWY EGRETS were seen near the water district along with a BELTED KINGFISHER. CANADA GEESE were grazing on an open field north of the water district. A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen perched in a Sycamore tree. YELLOW RUMPED WARBLERS and RUBY CROWNED KINGLETS were seen and heard all along the trail. Also WHITE and GOLDEN CROWNED SPARROWS in small flocks on or near the ground. Once I went under Blossom Hill Rd. I heard PINE SISKINS and found one in a group of AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES. I stayed on the paved trail until I walked under freeway 85 then went straight to the perc pond. Many Cliff Swallow nests were on the freeway bridge. I counted 31 male RING NECKED DUCKS on the pond along with LESSER SCAUP, equal number of GADWALL, one male COMMON GOLDENEYE and one male CANVASBACK DUCK. Some RUDDY DUCKS and many COOTS were also on this pond. The PEREGRINE FALCON seen earlier flew over but didn't flush the ducks. On the way back I walked close to the creek ( river channel) not sure what to call it. I heard a FOX SPARROW chipping to another and found both. Nearby some NUTMEG MANNIKINS flew into a small Willow. Two LINCOLN SPARROWS were on the ground. As I got closer to look for more Mannikins I flushed a WILSON'S SNIPE. It called as it flew across the creek. I saw it land and noticed the bold yellow stripes on its back. Sure I would find it again I looked for another snipe, then couldn't find the first. Near Blossom Hill Rd. two male COMMON YELLOWTHROATS and more SONG SPARROWS found. Several very large flocks were BUSHTITS also along the trail. Anyone wanting access to the per pond could park just west of Pier I or Stuart Anderson's on Blossom Hill Rd. The trail is west of the buildings on the east side of the river. Walk north a short distance to the perc pond. This trail appeared to end at the perc pond. A pair of Common Mergansers were seen on Lake Almaden.
