I arrived at Ed Levin Park, Elm Picnic Area, around 8:15 this morning. It was fogged in and no sign of the owls. Peggy Don arrived around ~9 and at ~9:30 she found the first Long-eared Owl in a pine tree at the end of the parking lot near the playground. There were only 4 of us around at that time, but we got a good look. I had no idea I was looking for a long SLIM bird! It flew after a few minutes. About a half hour later a second, larger, bird was found in a pine tree near the playground. This bird stayed in the pine tree for 20 min or so. By this time there were a dozen or so birders and we all got a decent, although obstructed, view. Several of us had our scopes on him. Thanks Peggy, you're my hero today!
