There was no sign of a loon. I stopped by Richmond Ave, off of Santa Teresa/Hale in Coyote Valley, and found an adult FERRUGINOUS HAWK. This is the same location where 2 of these birds were found last year. On Sunday, 5 Dec 04, I went to the SCVWD ponds near Almaden Xway and Coleman in south San Jose. Here, a pair of adult PEREGRINE FALCONS sat cooperatively in the dead sycamore on the island. A GREEN HERON was along the edge of the pond, a SAY'S PHOEBE was in an adjacent field, and about 6 PINE SISKINS were in with a goldfinch flock. Later, a stop at the Coyote Creek Golf Club produced 4 HOODED MERGANSERS (2 males and 2 females) on the course pond. A flock of 9 WILSON'S SNIPE was gathered around the base of a pine tree along the road, and allowed excellent viewing at 15 feet from the car blind.
