Within 60 seconds I saw a dark medium sized bird fly across the trail from some pale blue elderberry (-like) berries. I figured it was just another Cal Towhee--but then I noticed it had a crest. What was an Oak Titmouse doing here? But wait, it had very pale wingbars...and it started flycatching! I assume it is a juvenile or female as it is not deep black and I did not notice those striking wing patches of the male. When I walked back 25 min later, it was still there, going back and forth across the trail, or flying from the NASA housing area. It hung out against the back of the first group of trees heading from La Avenida toward the Bay, and also headed for the elderberries again. Also present: Belted Kingfisher (at times perching in a palm tree-- interesting juxtaposition), Nuttall's Woodpecker, Great Egret, female Common Yellowthroat in a major chase and altercation with 2 Song Sparrows, Bushtits, California Towhee and House Finches.
