Unfortunately this smallish pond had 20+ dead ducks scattered about it. Most if not all of the dead ducks were NORTHERN SHOVELERS. As we left the pond a couple TURKEY VULTURES landed on the poles on the smaller island. We then had 2 to 3 brightly plumaged YELLOW WARBLERS (one male) in the eucalyptus tree located just north of the banding trailer and a WESTERN TANAGER was calling some distance south of the trailer. A quick stop at New Chicago Marsh failed to produce any rarities and only one birder, Dave Weber, who had also not seen our "usual goodies."
