Hi All!
       In the past week, we've had more hummingbirds than usual at both the 
sugar water feeders.  I've counted seven individuals, often sitting sharing all 
ports on the feeder.  It's the first year that there have been more than two 
hummers in our Santa Clara yard. 
       I noticed that one hummer's wings made a different--more buzzy--sound 
than the usual Anna's.   Then I heard some "chuppity" vocalization sounds as 
(she?) staunchly defended the front feeder.  I finally saw the rufous flanks 
and green back!   This is the first selasphorus hummingbird we've ever noticed 
in the yard.
       Who says late summer's no fun for birding??
