Folks:

This afternoon, 8/26/04, I cycled out to the Stevens Creek mouth to look 
for shorebirds.  As Mike Rogers noted yesterday, the tide change from a 
low-high to a high-low tide meant that there was a long period of 
uncovering.  The big flocks moved in about 1:46 pm.  Dean Manley showed up 
about 20 minutes earlier.  Initially, I had one basic RED KNOT fly in and 
then divert with a flock of Westerns.  Five minutes later two knots moved 
in to forage and when I left at 2:00 pm, there were six birds.  A couple 
were in pure basic plumage, but the others had from 2 to 15% salmon alt. 
feathers on their underparts.  Frank Vanslager and a colleague were coming 
out as I left, perhaps they or Dean will post if there are additional details.
