They were mixed in with large numbers of Willets, Black-bellied Plovers, and other shorebirds. In one group of seven, two of the REKNs were still almost in breeding plumage, making my identification easier. Then a Peregrine Falcon flew over low and scattered everything further away. The male and female Black Skimmers were still using, and defending by flying over any bypassers, the last island on the north edge of B1, but there was no sign of any young. Also, it seemed that only the Forster’s Terns were using the boardwalk in A2E that the Least Terns normally use for staging.
