It was in the first pond north of the RR tracks (i.e. in the direction of the EEC), quite close. It was possible to see the rufous on the crown in good light, and even a touch on the face. The barring was distinctive, especially near the tail. It was a pleasure to see this plumage - first time for me to see a Stilt Sandpiper in anything resembling breeding plumage. Unfortunately, I left my National Geographic out at State and Spreckels! it is an old beat-up copy, and I have other copies at home, so this is not a total loss. But I like to take this one on pelagics and other times when it may be raining - so if you find it (I put it on a post west of the intersection), let me know, and I'll arrange to pick it up. Thanks.
