Despite this it took almost two hours to refind the LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH. I picked it out at 8:15am opposite the end of the parking lot from within the creek bed. It worked its way downstream to past the restrooms, providing intermittent looks for many of the 20 or 30 people there until about 9:00am. Despite getting close to the bird several times, I never heard it call once. It is a pretty stealthy bird and takes a lot of time to get to see. There were lots of people with cameras but nobody managed to get photos before I left at 9:45am. Other birds there included a WESTERN TANAGER, 4 CASPIAN TERNS overhead heading upstream (including one begging young bird), a GREEN HERON, and a pair of DARK-EYED JUNCOS feeding a BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD. This is a first county record, #386 I believe, after the recent addition of Cackling Goose in response to the split of Canada Goose into two species. Great find Janna! and thanks to Linda and Scott Terrill for taking the time to check the bird out yesterday evening.
